The probability of failures grows proportionally with the size of the system. Large-scale systems exhibit a short mean time between failures (MTBF); the MTBF of exa-scale systems is expected not to exceed one hour. Furthermore many large-scale systems, like clouds for instance, service many users concurrently and thus face highly dynamic workloads. Many kinds of failures can occur in such systems. Physical hosts or virtual machines (VMs) can crash, network partitions or VM migrations can lead to message losses or large variations in network latency, so on and so forth...
Dependability in large-scale systems raises many challenging issues, such as failure detection among a great number of nodes and the design of dependable systems able to deal with high dynamism and virtualization. Combining scalability and dependability also complexifies experimentation: it is hard to control a vast experimental environment where deployment, fault injection, and performance analysis are conducted on a large scale.
The workshop is a place for sharing research results, ideas, and establish future collaborations among researchers of the domain. In particular, DEP-LS aims at promoting and fostering discussion on novel ideas, innovative techniques, and possibly controversial approaches.
DEP-LS is a co-located event of the European Dependable Computing Conference (EDCC'2015), which will take place in September 7-11, 2015, on the Jussieu campus of the Université Pierre & Marie Curie (Paris 6), located in the Quartier Latin of Paris, France. Topics of interest
Authors are encouraged to submit both theoretical and applied papers on their research concerning dependability in large scale systems. Topics for the workshop include, but are not limited to:
- Failure detection
- Churn resilience
- Reliable data storage
- Information dissemination
- Robustness evaluation
- Failure injection
Papers must be written in English with a maximum of 6 pages, submitted in PDF and formatted in two-column format following the guidelines of IEEE-CS Proceedings.

At least one of the authors will be required to register and attend the workshop to present the paper in order to include the paper in the conference proceedings.
EDCC will publish accepted workshop papers as companion proceedings in the ACM Computing Research Repository (CoRR).
